Acupuncture sessions

Acupuncture protocols are selected based on the patients’ individual patterns and symptoms. Certain body points are chosen, some local, some distal, and depending on the condition electrical acupuncture might be used (often for orthopaedics), as well as auricular (ear points) acupuncture and or scalp acupuncture.

Cupping and Gua Sha (also referred to as scraping) are some modalities that can be used during treatments to help relax fascia and move blood for pain or stagnation issues and in many orthopaedic conditions.

Moxa (the burning of certain therapeutic herbs) is often used as it has powerful properties in helping with many chronic imbalances and deficiencies. Otherwise infrared lights are used as deep penetrating heat is a very useful modality in combination with acupuncture.

Tuning forks are sometimes used upon request or in the case of certain emotional patterns that might benefit from this sound/vibration modality.

Mindfull Life Style re-examining

Re-examining one’s daily habits is very useful when one is trying to make changes to a condition, especially on that has taken a while to develop (such as an endocrine, immune, neurological, musculoskeletal chronic issues etc). Indeed certain habits might have served us at some point but no longer do.

Paying more attention to one’s posture and trying to move more mindfully, as well as tensions being held unconsciously in the body (body armouring). Also looking at breathing habits (ex: often holding one’s breath or shallow breathing) that can in the long term contribute to many unrelated health conditions. Being curious about one’s mental patterns and outlook on the world. In regards to relationships, health, the body, taking care of the body etc…. Being open to looking at unconscious resistances to getting better or creating changes. These are all part of a mindful approach to health and coming back to a place that involves less pain, discomfort, unease and reactivity.

Of course looking at diet, exercise, stress management, sleep hygiene, supplement routine, movement routines (cardio, weight, stretching, balance), mental health routines (down time, social time, creative time, playful time, nature time) are all important pieces towards wellness.

QiGong/Heavenly Essence Workshops

16 hour workshops that go over the basic principles that make Qigong the powerful and health promoting modality that it is.

Part of the class goes over the principles that explain how and why Qigong works, and part of it goes over a series of 9 different practices that can be practiced in many different settings (such as standing, walking, sitting or laying down). The advantage of studying Qigong in this way is that when you understand the theory behind the exercises you can adapt them to your life and specific health needs.

Individual exercises that might help a current condition can also be integrated with the treatments if the patient is interested.

Chinese Herbal formulas

Chinese herbs are some of the most sophisticated herbal prescriptions. How the herbs are combined and the dynamics that occur in between the herbs in these different combinations are the strength of Chinese herbalism. With herbs engendering certain properties in others, balancing their effects or guiding them to certain areas of the body. In these prescriptions, attention is given to all this as well as finely adjusted dosages that makes the formulas unique treatment modalities for each patient. This is a case where the sum is greater than it’s parts and the combined effect of the herbs can have all at once a number of therapeutic effects on the patient addressing both their symptoms as well as the root of their issues.

At our clinic, herbs are prescribed in capsule or powered forms and are taken in the same fashion as supplements, usually throughout the day.

Supplements might also be recommended and incorporated into one’s health regiment or as a short term treatment protocol.
